Jonas Feige is a photographer based near Frankfurt am Main. His work is driven by a longstanding interest in perception and in the ways photography renders the world strange, unstable and open to being encountered anew. Projects develop over years, through repeated visits to the same places and people, and time runs through them as both subject and method.
His first books grew out of documentary inquiry into history and memory: Zenker (Edition Patrick Frey, 2021, with Yana Wernicke) on German colonial history in Cameroon, and This Soil We Have Created for Ourselves (Kominek Books, 2021) on sites of memory and the nationalist myth of a sacred homeland. With A Narrow Foothold (Another Earth, 2024), his attention turned to the image itself: together with Alan Huck he assembled orphaned pictures from both their archives into a collective portrait of an anonymous city.
He is currently working on a book that approaches the photographer as a collector of things and their appearances, planned for publication in 2027.
